Former Managing Partner of McKinsey & Company in Vietnam & Thailand joins ThinkZone Ventures to accelerate startup growth

ThinkZone Ventures has welcomed Marco Breu as the new Venture Partner. With extensive experience in business consulting across Europe and Asia from his 25 years at McKinsey & Company, Marco aims to accelerate the growth of ThinkZone’s Series A+ portfolio companies in terms of strategy consulting, fundraising, and partnership connections.

Marco Breu is currently a Senior Advisor in McKinsey & Company's Vietnam office. Originally from Switzerland, he embarked on his McKinsey journey in the Zurich office in 1999 and later relocated to various Asian locations, including Seoul, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Until now, Marco has a 25-year history with the leading global management consulting firm and had served as its Managing Partner for 12 years.

Marco’s expertise lies in advising private companies across various sectors, specializing in corporate strategy, digital transformation, corporate governance, and growth initiatives. He plays a key role in guiding Vietnamese state-owned enterprises through business restructuring programs. He also oversees McKinsey & Company's public sector initiatives in Vietnam, with a specific focus on master planning, economic development, and social growth at the provincial level.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Marco is deeply passionate about social innovation and startup ecosystem. He founded The Mekong Business Challenge in 2006, an annual entrepreneurship program for the Mekong region, supporting over 1,000 teams from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Bhutan. He is also an active angel investor in startups across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, with a focus on fintech, e-commerce, retail, and agriculture.

Joining ThinkZone Ventures as a Venture Partner, Marco aims to leverage his extensive expertise and network to help growth-stage startups in our portfolio to grow beyond Series A. This is a significant addition to the fund’s capabilities of incubating tech startups from Pre-Seed, achieving Product-Market Fit in Seed, and scaling beyond Series A to international markets.

Sharing about his participation in ThinkZone Ventures, Marco Breu said: “Entrepreneurship and Incubation of new ideas has always been a passion of mine. I am excited to join the team and help young entrepreneurs realize their dreams”.

Last year in mid-2023, we also appointed Hoang Nguyen as Partner & Head of Investments, who has strong expertise in financial advisory & investment management at Deloitte and Sovico Group. With the recent addition of the management team, ThinkZone has strengthened our capabilities in scaling startups from early towards later stages, as the fund’s portfolio companies mature overtime.

ThinkZone Ventures is currently raising our 3rd fund from both local and international Limited Partners (LPs). With the goal of having the first close of USD 20 million by the end of H1.2024, Marco’s distinguished expertise and network are instrumental in raising ThinkZone Fund III from international investors who are keen on investing in Vietnamese early staged startups via a trusted local partner like ThinkZone.
